Part of our mission at Better Basics is to give back to our local community by donating time, product or monetary resources.
This Spring, we were connected with local charity Sole Food Farms to donate a few hundred of our Gather Pouch produce bags. We knew that these produce bags could benefit this organization that is truly making an impact in Vancouver by pioneering urban farming, employing folks with barriers and educating on fresh and local produce. If you shop at Sole Food Farms this summer, you may spot some of our Better Basics produce bags :)

What is Sole Food Farms?
If you haven't heard of them, you can sign up for their CSA box and receive local produce all summer long.
Sole Food Farms is on a mission to transform vacant urban land into beautiful living farms. It's incredible to see. They have taken an empty parking pad in the Olympic Village neighbourhood and evolved it into 2 acres of fertile growing land with apple trees, melons, tomatoes, root vegetables and all sorts of other local and native food plants that can be enjoyed all summer long.
Part of the mission of Sole Food Farms is not just to transform otherwise vacant land into useful, planet-restoring and food-creating spaces, but also to create a community and company that can educate on agriculture and joys of growing food, and create fulfilling jobs for folks with barriers to employment. One of the mandates of this social enterprise is to educate and train for individuals from Vancouver's downtown eastside who have been faced with barriers to employment. Through their work at Sole Food Farms they receive inclusive employment, agricultural training, support from a community who loves food. The charity also donates food to those who have limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
